USAC Silver Crown: Seavey Makes It To The Top

In what was one of the glorious nights of his career, Seavey nailed down victories in all three USAC divisions. In terms of the Silver Crown series, he had done what he needed. Swanson finished fifth giving Seavey a 16-point point cushion heading into the finale at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Swanson immediately added three points to his total with another fastest qualifying effort. Then, at the start of the 100-lap feature, Seavey got off the line poorly and momentarily fell back in the pack. In the end, it didn’t matter as Swanson dealt with an ill-handling car all day.

While Tanner Swanson was en route to a record eighth Silver Crown victory at IRP, his brother fought back to finish fourth. It wasn’t enough, however, to steal the title from Seavey.

This was a title three years in the making for the driver/crew chief combination of Seavey and Gardner. Co-owner Robbie Rice was an entrant champion for the second time, while Abacus Racing’s Brent Cox earned his first title.

Notable performances were posted by Kaylee Bryson, who earned rookie-of-the-year honors with a fifth-place finish in the standings. Grant ended up third in points, while C.J. Leary was one spot behind. Mario Clouser and Taylor Ferns were full-time contestants and both drivers posted quality finishes.
