USAC Cancels Oval Nationals & Turkey Night GP

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — As part of USAC’s updated national calendar for the remainder of the season, the sanctioning body has announced the cancellation of the Oval Nationals and the Turkey Night Grand Prix.

The 80th edition of the Turkey Night Grand Prix would have featured the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series and was slated for Thanksgiving night, Nov. 26 at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. Kyle Larson is the defending winner of the Turkey Night Grand Prix.

This is the first time since 1954 that the Turkey Night Grand Prix, which was first held in 1934, will not be run.

The 25th running of the Oval Nationals at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway was originally scheduled for Nov. 5-7 and would have featured the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series. C.J. Leary won the 24th edition of the event in 2019.

This is the first year since the event debut in 1996 that the Oval Nationals will not take place.

Advance tickets purchased for the 2020 Oval Nationals will be good for the 2021 Oval Nationals.

Both events were nixed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
