INDIANAPOLIS – Tanner Thorson will pilot a second entry for Malloy Racing for the remainder of the NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget Series season, starting Friday at Gas City I-69 Speedway.
Thorson will wheel the No. 25m as a teammate to regular Malloy Racing driver Chase Johnson, who will continue to drive the No. 25.
The Minden, Nev., native is currently fourth in the USAC national midget point standings, seeking his second title after winning the 2016 championship.
Thorson recently vacated the seat of the No. 19 Hayward Motorsports midget and is eager for his new opportunity with owner Tom Malloy and crew chief Jerome Rodela.
“I am really looking forward to ending this year strong with Tom Malloy and Jerome Rodela,” said Thorson. “Chase has been fast in their cars and I’m hoping to be able to add to their speed. They have great equipment and we’re both eager to continue the success that this year has brought.”
“It’s going to be rad,” added Rodela. “I’m really looking forward to the addition of Tanner and seeing what our team can accomplish.”
Knowing that Thorson is just 105 points behind current championship leader Chris Windom, Malloy hopes that his team can help guide Thorson to a shot at another championship.
“Jerome Rodela called me last week and told me Tanner was available, and when he asked if I would want to put him in our car, I couldn’t resist,” Malloy noted. “Knowing what I do about Tanner’s talent, I believe he’ll do us proud and I’m excited to have both Tanner and Chase representing the Malloy family and Trench Shores Co.”
