Gardner Completes Cocopah Sweep

SOMERTON, Ariz. — Damion Gardner made it a perfect three-for-three to start the season with his third triumph in as many nights Saturday at Cocopah Speedway.

Gardner started the AMSOIL USAC-CRA sprint car feature from sixth spot and blasted to the front, taking the lead from Chase Johnson on the third lap of the four-tenths-mile track.

The nine-time series champion led the remainder of the 30-lap event to claim victory aboard Matt Alexander’s familiar No. 1.

Polesitter Eddie Tafoya Jr. finished second, with Matt Mitchell, Charles Davis Jr. and Brody Roa rounding out the top five.

Cody Williams set a track record during qualifying with a lap of 16.213 seconds.
