MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Veteran open-wheel racer Chris Windom confirmed on X (formerly known as Twitter) Monday that he will join Vermeer Motorsports for the upcoming racing season.
Windom, who finished second in the All Star Circuit of Champions standings while driving for Lane Racing will join team owner Tony Vermeer and crew chief Clinton Boyles in the familiar No. 55 sprint car that will carry support from Windom’s longtime sponsor, NOS Energy.
“Couldn’t be more excited to get going in 2024. Grateful for the opportunity with @VermeerMoto55,” Windom wrote.
Windom steps into the No. 55 after Hunter Schuerenberg, Buddy Kofoid and Kerry Madsen each had a stint in the Iowa-based ride during the 2023 campaign.
Having made the switch from non-winged sprint cars to winged machines in 2022, Windom is still awaiting his first feature victory in the division.
Windom won the USAC Silver Crown championship in 2016, the USAC sprint car title in 2017 and the USAC midget crown in 2020.
