Williamson Conquers Perth Motorplex Sprint

Callum Williamson claimed the 15th round of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, ahead of Kris Coyle and Daniel Harding.

Williamson started from fourth and followed early leader Dayne Kingshott, who spun out trying to avoid the lapped car of Jarrin Bielby with 12 laps remaining. Kingshott would restart from the rear of the field.

From there, Williamson dictated the pace to take the win.

It was a big recovery for Williamson who qualified well below his usual standards at the start of the night.

In his heat race he converted a seventh start to a second-place finish and then moved from fifth to second in his Dash race.

Kingshott, who at the start of the night set the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time award, then took a third in his heat race and a win the B Dash, to set up the front row start with Jason Pryde who won the A Dash.

Prior to that point Pryde was quickest in his qualifying group before taking a win in his heat race and a win in the A Dash.

Kingshott got the jump at the start and led for two laps before Jason Kendrick and Aaron Chircop tangled on the main straight for the first red light stoppage.

Kendrick was able to put a new front axle in the car in the work zone, resuming at the rear, while Chircop’s night was over – as was Jack Williamson’s after he went to the work area with damage and never made it back out in time.

With six laps in the books Kingshott was into lapped traffic as Brad Maiolo clashed with Jarrin Bielby, putting the latter out.

Kendrick had nowhere to go and tagged Maiolo – and in the process he knocked out his brake calipers, with both cars on the infield for the rest of the show.

Jaydee Dack, Coyle and Jamie Maiolo had a good battle for fourth for many laps, trading blows.

With 17 laps remaining Kingshott was back into traffic and pulling away from Williamson, while Pryde was running his own race in third.

The caution lights came on a lap later with Ken Sartori spun around on the main straight.

Another couple of laps into the final and Dack spun to the infield after contact with Maiolo, as the same time as Shaun Bradford slid to the infield, but was able to get a restart.

Lancaster was the next driver to activate the red lights after a moment with Kaiden Manders, and he was nearly hit by Taylor Milling as well.

With 12 laps remaining Coyle got by Pryde for third and seconds lap it all came unstuck for Kingshott who tried desperately to avoid Bielby’s spun car.

This gave Williamson the lead on the restart who set sail for home, while Kingshott powered from 14th to cross the line in fifth, behind Manders who started from 18th and took fourth.

James Inglis, who started from 16th was sixth, ahead of Pryde, Maiolo, Taylor Milling, Cameron McKenzie, Dylan Menz, Myles Bolger, Brock Francis and Bielby.
