CHICO, Calif. – After a 12-year run at Calistoga (Calif.) Half-Mile, Silver Dollar Speedway is set to host this weekend’s Northern Auto Racing Club 13th annual Louie Vermeil Classic for the first time.
Both King of the West sprint car features on Saturday, Sept. 4, and Sunday, Sept. 5, pay $5,000 to win, honoring one of the series’ pioneers.
Vermeil helped conceptualize the sanctioning body in Calistoga’s Owl Garage in 1960, which led to the creation of NARC.
Dominic Scelzi enters the weekend with a 39-point series lead over Bud Kaeding with seven races to go, riding a six-race streak of podium finishes.
Tim Kaeding, 58-time winner at Silver Dollar, is expected to race in the event.
While Bud Kaeding has spent the bulk of his recent racing career with a wing on, he spent much of the 2000s in the USAC ranks without wings and is expected to have a non-wing ride for the CRA portion in a double-duty effort.
Other expected entrants in the Louie Vermeil Classic include Sean Becker, Bud Kaeding, DJ Netto, Mitchell Faccinto, Billy Aton, Sean Watts, Colby Copeland, Andy Forsberg, Joel Myers Jr., and Justin Sanders.
Additionally, the two-night program features $5,000-to-win USAC/CRA non-winged sprint car events.
The NARC-King of the West Hoosier Tire Format will include qualifying, 10-lap heat races, a six-lap dash, a 12-lap semi-feature, and the 30-lap main event.
