STOCKTON, Calif. – Over 100 drivers began their quest for a piece of the $20,000 Turkey Bowl XXII purse during Friday’s qualifying night at Delta Speedway.
Super 600 champion Caden Sarale, 2018 non-wing champion T.J. Smith, Lucas Johnso and Braxon Vasconcellos earned pole positions for Saturday’s main events.
Super 600, Non-Wing, and Restricted raced in 10-lap heat races and 12-lap qualifier races while Jr. Sprints heats were eight laps and qualifiers were 10-laps.
Jade Avedisian and Jeffrey Pahule qualified for the Super 600 and non-wing pole shuffles.
Avedisian was the high-point earner in Super 600 with drives from the ninth-starting position to third in the heat race as well as a qualifier win from the fourth-starting position.
Colton Jones drove from the sixth-place starting spot to second in his heat and from fourth to second in the third qualifier for the highest points-earning performance in the non-wing division.
After qualifiers concluded, Avedisian drew an eight out of a trick-or-treat bag of the eight Super 600 drivers battling in the pole shuffle.
Jones drew a four to set the participants for the non-wing shuffle. Neither high-point driver would prevail in the shuffles.
Caden Sarale ranked fourth in Super 600 Turkey Bowl points but the eight-time track champion advanced past Lachlan Caunt and Jake Hagopian to make the shuffle final.
Sarale then defeated Avedisian in the final round of the shuffle to earn the pole position for the $2,000-to-win, 40-lap Super 600 feature Saturday. Smith defeated Jones in the non-wing pole shuffle, earning the pole for the 40-lap, $2,000-to-win feature.
Lucas Johnson won the 20-lap preliminary feature in the restricted division to earn Saturday’s pole for the $1,000-to-win feature.
This year’s track champion Jett Barnes will start on the outside pole with Teagan Moles starting third.
The top four points-earning drivers in junior sprints participated in a game of pumpkin bowling for their Saturday starting positions.
Braxon Vasconcellos earned the Turkey Bowl pole followed by Hayden Stepps, track champion Brody Rubio and Blayden Graham for Saturday’s 30-lap, $1,000-to-win feature.
