Tony Gomes Teams With Rutz For Dirt Cup 50

ALGER, Wash. – Modesto, California’s Tony Gomes is excited to team up with Rutz Racing and make his first career Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup start later this month at Skagit Speedway.

The much anticipated $50,000-to-win event is sanctioned by the NARC Fujitsu 410 Sprint Cars and will occur June 23 25.

“I’m really looking forward to teaming back up with Doug Rutz and Rutz Racing for the Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway,” commented Gomes. “It’s been a little while since we have worked together, but I felt like we had some good speed a few years ago. The Dirt Cup is shaping up to be a huge event with a lot of great cars, so I can’t wait.”

The 2019 campaign saw Gomes make several starts with the Langley, British Columbia-based team throughout the West Coast. Along the way they picked up a victory with the Summer Thunder Sprint Cars at Cottage Grove Speedway. One week later he then drove the Rutz Racing No. 8R to another triumph, this time at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Montana.

“We are excited to have Tony Gomes in the seat of our car for the Dirt Cup,” said team owner Doug Rutz. “The entire staff at Skagit Speedway has been doing excellent things with the facility and there is a lot of buzz once again for this event. We had success with Tony a few years ago and hope to put together more of the same later this month.”

Gomes has previously made just one career Winged 410 Sprint Car start, which resulted in a sixth-place finish at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford.

“I am certainly thrilled to have another shot at getting in a Winged 410 Sprint Car coming up,” Gomes mentioned. “It’s been a pretty good start to the season down here in California thus far and has felt good to be back in a car on a consistent basis. I’m thankful for the opportunity with Menne Motorsports this year, as well as having the chance to run for C&M Motorsports when our schedules allow.”
