Schotfeld Commands Platinum Cup

CHICO, Calif. — The final eight starting positions for the Platinum Cup were determined by two sets of qualifying races on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway.

By virtue of their finishing positions in the B Main, Jesse Schotfeldt, Jayson Bright, Brian McGahan Jr., Grant Chalplin, Nick Larsen, Brock Lemley, Landon Brooks and Stephen Ingraham will start the Platinum Cup on Saturday night which serves as the support race for the 67th annual Gold Cup.

Jesse Schotfeldt won a 20-lap caution riddled B Main. Eighteen cars started the qualifying event which would fill the final four rows for the following night.

It first appeared that Grant Chaplin would take the win as he led most of the race until a scramble with a lapped car with just three laps remaining jumbled the running order.

Schotfeldt took advantage of an opening on the front stretch to get by both Chaplin and Bright and lead the final three laps for the win.

The race was slowed a total of five times, all for minor incidents.

The C Main preceded the qualifier with 16 cars taking the green flag.  The initial start was negated for a spin and on the ensuing restart, Bret Barney caught the rear tire of Ashlyn Rodriquez sending him flipping in turn two.

The race’s second red occurred on lap four when R.C. Smith flipped in the first turn.

Stephen Ingraham went on to win the 12-lap race over Jayson Bright, Nick Larsen and Rodriquez.

Colby Copeland and Andy Forsberg will start on the front row of the Platinum Cup for the 360 sprint cars on Saturday night.
