Robinson & Whitley Rule Sills Classic

STOCKTON, Calif. — Ryan Robinson and Daniel Whitley won their respective sprint car features during the Jimmy Sills Classic at the Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night.

Robinson won the 30-lap Sprint Car Challenge Tour winged sprint car main event, while Whitley won the 25-lap Joe Hunt Magneto wingless sprint car feature.

Robinson driving the black No. 14m for Weiher Racing and starting fifth, made a late-race charge to take the lead from Andy Forsberg. Forsberg settled for second after starting on the pole. D.J. Netto raced his way to a podium finish in his No. 88n.

Shane Golobic, the current SCCT season long points leader, looked well on his way to yet another Stockton victory until he flipped on the 13th circuit coming out of the second turn. Michael Faccinto would inherit the lead back as Golobic’s car was too badly damaged to continue.

Faccinto, who led the early laps driving the No. x1 car for the first time, would fall victim to Forsberg and eventually would settle for fourth place. Forsberg would have difficulty maneuvering thru lapped traffic on a narrow track and Robinson would go to the inside and make a three wide pass to take the lead. Once out front, Robinson cruised to a .0776-second margin of victory over Forsberg and Netto.

Faccinto held on for fourth while Tanner Carrick who had a close call on 12th lap when he ran over the right-rear tire of his younger brother Blake who had slowed to pull into the infield. The elder Carrick got airborne coming out of the second turn and his car wasn’t as fast as when he started the race.

In the Joe Hunt Magneto Series feature, Whitley picked up his second straight Series win in the legendary Ted Finkenbinder owned black No. 3f car. He beat out Shawn Arriaga who dogged him nearly the entire 25 laps and Josh Young. Jake Morgan and Shawn Jones rounded out the top five.

The legendary Jimmy Sills was in attendance to greet both feature winners in victory lane.
