HOLLY, Mich. – Even though the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro is nearly five months away, the excitement is building.
The April 29-30 series visit to South Boston (Va.) Speedway will bring winged 410 sprint cars to the historic facility for the first time and offer $30,000 in total purse money. The two-day event will be the season opening events for MSR, pits the MSR regulars against the best winged asphalt sprint car drivers in the southeast.
South Boston Speedway was built in 1957 as a quarter-mile dirt-track. Today it is a four-tenths-mile paved oval.
NASCAR figures such as Dale Earnhardt Sr., Dale Earnhardt Jr., Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Terry Labonte, Geoff Bodine, Bobby Allison, Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader, David Pearson, Buddy Baker, Richard Petty, Benny Parsons, and Buck Baker have raced at the speedway.
It will also be the first-time sprint cars of any sort have competed since October 13, 2001. Tracy Hines won that USAC National Sprint Car Series event 20 years ago.
The two-day format will see a complete program of racing highlighted by 30-lap features both nights.
The winner will walk away with $3,000 each night with additional incentives for quick-time honors and heat race performances. The total purse for the weekend will be in excess of $33,710.
A points paying championship for MSR will return in 2022. Anthony McCune was the last MSR championed crowned after the 2020 season.
