GAFFNEY, S.C. – In the debut of the new-look Murray-Marks Motorsports team, Brent Marks laid waste to the sprint car field during Tuesday’s Prelude to the Finals at Cherokee Speedway.
Starting from the pole after winning his heat, Marks quickly drove away from Shane Stewart, who moved into the second position early on. Stewart’s run was soon over as he flipped in turn one after an axle broke on the No. 71 entry with six laps complete. He walked away from the incident unharmed.Â
Marks resumed his position at the point when the green flag waved, only for the caution to wave again a few laps later for an incident involving Zach Hampton and Gray Ledbetter. Marks powered away from the field during the restart and was in control when the final caution waved for Brian Paulus slowed to a stop on track with 10 laps left.
With no traffic in front him once the race resumed, Marks powered away to a comfortable victory in the debut of his new race team.
“It’s really cool coming out on our first night under a new name and new partnership and win the race,” Marks said after the $5,000 victory. “Thank you to Allen Murray and his whole family for teaming up with us here and starting this new beginning. It’s just really cool to get the win here tonight.”
Parker Price-Miller came home second, followed by Eric Riggins Jr., Gio Scelzi and Ledbetter.
The race was broadcasted by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate Pit Row TV.
The finish:
Brent Marks, Parker Price-Miller, Eric Riggins Jr., Gio Scelzi, Gray Ledbetter, Tim Perry, Brian Paulus, Justin Barger, Zach Hampton, Shane Stewart, Brian Thomas, Danny Smith.
