KNOXVILLE, Iowa — In hiring its third driver of the season, Vermeer Motorsports is turning back the clock nearly 20 years.
The team has hired many-time Australian sprint car champion Kerry Madsen to finish the season in the familiar Vermeer Motorsports No. 55 machine owned by Tony Vermeer.
Madsen ran for the team previously, earning the Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway championship in 2005.
With Madsen onboard, the team plans to run the All Star Circuit of Champions tour, while competing in big-money races including the Eldora Million, Kings Royal and Knoxville Nationals.

The first race for Madsen back aboard the No. 55 will come Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he’s raced a limited schedule this season driving for Guy Forbrook.
Madsen, who won the 2014 Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway, replaces Buddy Kofoid, who was with the team less than two weeks after replacing Hunter Schuerenberg, who had a successful three-year run with the Pella, Iowa-based sprint car team.
