Larson Has One Hand On PA Speedweek Crown

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The path to the Pennsylvania Speedweek presented by Red Robin championship has become simple for Kyle Larson entering the final night of the mini-series.

With a mammoth 184-point margin over second-place Danny Dietrich and only 185 points on the table between qualifying, heat races and the feature at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, all Larson has to do is time in during qualifying and he’ll seal the deal.

As long as Larson completes a lap during time trials, he’ll earn the minimum one point that is paid out to those who take time in qualifications, meaning that the worst Dietrich could do is tie Larson by running the table and setting fast time, winning a heat and the feature.

Larson and Dietrich would each have three wins, but with more second-place finishes, it gives Larson the tiebreaker and the crown in that scenario.

Alternatively, if Dietrich misses out on any part of the sweep (fast time, a heat win and the feature win), it would clinch the title for Larson at that point.

By the numbers, Larson leads Dietrich 1,262-1,078 in the standings through eight races.

Freddie Rahmer continues his lockdown of third place in points with 1,023 and is the only other driver aside from Larson and Dietrich to earn 1,000 or more points through the first eight races of PA Speedweek.

Ryan Smith (980) sits fourth, in front of a deadlock for fifth between Rico Abreu and Brent Marks at 912 points.

Brock Zearfoss (791), Anthony Macri (786), Lance Dewease (748) and Sammy Swindell (737) fill out the top 10 in points going into the final night at Port Royal Speedway.

Action begins for the Greg Hodnett Classic, paying $10,027 to win, at 7 p.m. ET.
