Krikke Boys Shootout Title Belongs To Goodyer

Jock Goodyer is this year’s Krikke Boys Shootout champion.

The Tasmanian, who won last year’s Australian Sprintcar Championship at Perth Motorplex, won another big race at the major Western Australia venue on Saturday night, taking the 35-lap feature race win ahead of Callum Williamson and new Australian champion Lachlan McHugh.

Goodyer started on pole for the main event after a near-perfect run.

He set the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time at the start of the show and then won his heat, as well as the A Dash.

Goodyer got the jump on fellow front row starter, American Brock Zearfoss who was able to return to Australia again, on loan from the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

He surrendered the lead to Williamson with about nine laps in the books but by mid-race distance he reclaimed the lead and then pushed hard in lapped traffic to take the popular win.

It was Goodyer’s third win in Western Australia in the five nights of the Festival of Sprintcars – and it was a big turnaround from the first night of the Krikke Boys Shootout 24 hours earlier when he damaged an engine on a very fast race track and was a non-finisher.

Williamson started from fourth for the final for the time-honored event after being fourth quickest in his qualifying group. Taking full advantage of the top-four invert he won his heat race from the front.

He was then second in the B Dash to Zearfoss.

McHugh had to dig deep, starting from 10th after being fifth quickest in his qualifying session.

He then claimed fourth in his heat race and fifth in the A Dash.

A caution period was activated on the second lap when Matt Egel went to the work area with front-end damage.

He was followed in by Daniel Harding with only Harding restarting in time.

The only other caution period came three laps later when Kris Coyle sustained front-end damage in the No. W79, putting him out of the show.

From there the race ran to the checkered flag.

James Inglis, who failed to make the show on the Friday night, took fourth after starting third. Kaiden Manders, who started ninth, was fifth, while Jamie Veal took sixth after starting sixth.
