Jones Controls Stockton Hunt Magneto Sprint

STOCKTON, Calif. – Shawn Jones won the 25-lap Joe Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint Car Series feature at the Stockton Dirt Track Saturday night.

Jones drove the No. 14 Barry Pries-owned car to the lead early in the race. Once D.J. Johnson dropped out of the race with six laps remaining, Jones was able to cruise to a non-contested win.

Jarrett Soares was the runner up finisher ahead of Cody Fendley, Daniel Whitley and Jake Morgan.

Fendley and Whitley brought the 18-car starting field down for the green. The leaders went three wide into the first turn but before a lap could be completed, Shane Hopkins stopped in the second turn to bring out the caution and force a complete restart. Hopkins would be the race’s first retiree.

Jones would once again move quickly to the front after starting in the fourth spot. He and Fendley would wage a battle, throwing the cars sideways to get through the corners.

The next yellow would come out on lap eight when Jake Morgan stopped high in the second turn. Morgan would restart.

Two laps later the caution lights would come on for Scott Clough who spun in the fourth turn. Fendley would begin to fall back, losing positions back to the fifth spot just as Johnson would make his move to take over second.

It became a Jones-Johnson show after the restart until lap 12 when Bob Newberry spun on the backstretch.

After the restart, Johnson would have an issue and pull into the infield under green, ending his attempt to get around Jones.

Jones had to deal with one more caution as Jacob Tuttle had a left front tire go flat. He would pit for a replacement and tag the tail of the field after running as high as third.

Jones had few problems completing the final few laps and took the win over Jarrett Soares and Fendley.Â
