Jerry Caryer Memorial Set For Lorain

ELYRIA, Ohio — The second annual Xtreme Speed Classic is scheduled Aug. 13-14 at Lorain County Raceway Park.

The two-day extravaganza will feature the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro, Midwest Supermodified Series, and Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights Series.

The action will kick off Friday August 13 with qualifying, heat races, Fast Car Dash, and twin 20-lap qualifiers for the MSR 410 sprint cars. The MSR Midwest Lights will also be in action with a complete program of racing action. 

The following night the MSR 410s will return for a B main and their 30-lap feature as well as a complete program for the MSS Supermodifieds.

The Saturday night event is being billed as “The Jerry Caryer Memorial.” 

Caryer was a long time MSR competitor who called Ney, Ohio, home. The former dirt racer/converted pavement racer was a popular driver who died one year ago. 

Caryer, who was 62 at the time of his death, was an accomplished racer who began his racing career on dirt in 1975. He captured his first sprint car win in 1987.
