Henry & Lane Racing Soak In A Breakout Year

“We run J&J Chassis with Kistler Engines, and we use Pro Shocks by Linder’s Speed Equipment. Zack Myers came on board as the crew chief in 2019 and has done a phenomenal job since day one,” said Henry of his team. “We have a great friendship and even better working relationship, and I know whenever I get in the car it’ll be good.”

Myers has a four year tenure at ThorSport Racing, the three-time and defending NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series championship-winning team based in Sandusky, Ohio, through the week.

However, when Friday comes, it’s off to the dirt track to turn some wrenches and manage some tires.

“We continue to build on things we know,” said Myers. “We just keep the car from falling apart week in and week out, we keep trying different stuff and different setups. We just keep building up our base line notes, and setups, keep the car rolling best we can.

With ThorSport and the sprint car are two complete different things, but I do bring some knowledge from that shop with me here. It’s just the small things, we keep it going, and Cap keeps turning the wheel.”

The pair has a relationship that has been more than fruitful in 2020, including a pair of big wins during Ohio Sprint Speedweek with the All Star Circuit of Champions.

“Zack and I have a notebook that goes to way back in my career, so we can try and recall what we were doing and what the track was like,” noted Henry. “From a driving sense, Attica and Wayne County seem to fit how I like to drive the car. Fremont is a bit more of a challenge. I have a lot of laps at Fremont so I am comfortable racing there, I just always seem to struggle qualifying there for some reason.

“Our Ohio All Star Speedweek was a roller coaster of a ride. But the two wins, Attica and Wayne County, were definitely special,” he continued. “The one at Attica meant a lot in particular. I had been close there so many times, but to finally seal the deal was a great moment for not only me, but Lane Racing as a team. I don’t pin a single thing that needed to happen to call 2020 successful, but that win was certainly meaningful.

“I think we still have a lot left in us and we’ll see what we can do in closing out the year.”

This season marked the Republic, Ohio driver’s first-ever Attica Raceway Park track championship in a season that saw him win seven features at the Friday night venue.

“My visor got so fogged up I couldn’t see those guys, and I knew I should quit racing. I just kind of backed up to make sure we could finish that thing,” recalled Henry of the Attica finale. “I can’t say enough about my team. It’s a team effort and I’m just proud of these guys. It’s incredible. We got really close last year, and just couldn’t do it, so to seal it off this year means that it’s been a remarkable season.

“I haven’t won a championship in anything since I was a little kid in go-karts; this is an incredible moment and I’m honored to share it with the whole Lane Racing team.”

A strong season of 11 victories, including two All Star Speedweek wins and the Pete Jacobs Memorial at Wayne County Speedway, doesn’t leave a huge amount of room to climb.

But Henry is ready to try.

“We want to finish as strong as we can and then see what’s next for us,” he said with a smile.
