Hamilton Nabs Pole For Dave Steele 125

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — The starting lineup for the third annual Dave Steele World Non-Wing Sprint Car Championship 125 is set after qualifying and a pair of heat races at Showtime Speedway Friday night.

Davey Hamilton Jr. paced the evening’s qualifications with a lap of 13.239 seconds around the quarter-mile oval. Hamilton was awarded $500 form the Dave Steele family for his efforts.

Hamilton proceeded to win his heat race in dominant fashion to secure the pole position for Saturday’s 125-lap $5,000-to-win event.

“To win the heat race, and qualify first, you can’t ask for a better night” stated Hamilton. “The car was a bare frame two weeks ago. Hats off to the all the crew guys for getting this thing ready.”

With more than $2,000 in lap monies available, Hamilton was asked if he will be conservative and manage his tires or go hard at the drop pf the green flag.

“The money thing really isn’t in my mind,” he said. “It’s great to have that but my thing is get a lead and I wanna stay up front the whole race, hopefully. As long as I finish first that what matters.”

Kody Swanson will share the front row with Hamilton by virtue of winning his 15-lap heat race. Cars that did not participate in Friday’s qualifying and heat races will be required to start at the back of Saturdays 125-lap finale.

Kyle O’Gara and Bobby Santos III will share the second row.
