Gravel Jumps To The Top Of National Sprint Car Rankings

David Gravel earned the biggest winner’s purse in World of Outlaws history on Saturday night at Huset’s Speedway and also jumped from third to first in this week’s National Sprint Car Rankings.

With a $250,000 triumph in the High Bank Nationals, Gravel boosted his average finish to 5.135 in 37 races this season, pushing him ahead of fellow World of Outlaws racers Brad Sweet and Carson Macedo.

Sweet has a 5.703 average finish in 37 starts, while Macedo averages a 5.730 finish in 37 events.

Rico Abreu and Pennsylvania wheelman A.J. Flick round out the top five in the national rankings.

Fifty-nine drivers have now made the 20 starts required to be eligible for the National Sprint Car Rankings.

Interestingly, Corey Day, who has won eight features, has only 18 starts and has not reached the 20 starts required to qualify for the National Sprint Car Rankings. Day’s average finish is 3.444.

Six hundred and 80 drivers have started at least one 410 winged sprint car feature this season.

With two PA Sprint Speedweek victories in as many nights, Anthony Macri has returned to the top of the Eastern region standings.

Joe B. Miller, who picked up a victory at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway Saturday, heads the Mid-America region and Cap Henry remains on top in the Great Lakes region.

Austin McCarl has returned to the top spot in the Great Plains standings.

Day leads both the Western and Northwest region standings.

A.J. Flick maintained the top spot in the PA-Ohio region.

One hundred and 10 drivers have combined to win the 222 features run so far this season.
