Golobic Stops Sanders At Ocean Speedway

WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Shane Golobic won the 30-lap Taco Bravo 360 Sprint Car Series feature Friday night at Ocean Speedway.

Golobic won his first series feature, holding off a fast closing Corey Day after finishing second the previous week.

Polesitter Keith Day Jr. finished in the third spot ahead of Golobic’s teammate Ryan Bernal and Dominic Scelzi.

Day and three-time feature winner Justin Sanders led the 22-car field to the green with Day jumping to the lead. The two jousted for the point for two laps before the red flag came out for Sanders upside down car coming out the fourth turn. The wreck ended Sander’s night and sent Sean Becker to the work area after he had made contact with a crossed up Sanders which sent him over.

The restart put Golobic side by side with Day however the field did not complete a lap before Adam Kaeding and Kurt Nelson double flipped off the first turn banking.

Once the race restart, Golobic would pass Day in the fourth turn to lead the next lap.  Golobic would slowly pull away but it would be Mitchell Faccinto who would battle for third place.  After running side by side for several laps, it would be Bernal who would take over the spot.

Corey Day was showing his strength, picking off spots by powering to the high outside groove. By the 19th circuit, Day had moved into the fourth position after winning the B Main.

After a rough start, the feature laps went by quickly until a lap 23 slowed the field down. The race’s final caution would put Corey Day on Golobic’s back bumper in a single file restart. But Golobic’s Matt Wood Racing No. 17w would not be denied and Golobic claimed the win in front of a still empty grandstands due to COVID-19 restrictions.
