SOUTH AMHERST, Ohio – A busy day at Lorain Raceway Park Sunday afternoon concluded the Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights Series season.
Prior to the weekend’s races, Joey Wyckoff entered the final weekend of racing with a mere 25-point lead for the series championship. The had been six different winners prior to Sunday’s season finale. Only Wyckoff and Charlie Shultz had won more than once in 2021.
J.J. Henes, still deep in the championship battle, came out Sunday afternoon with guns blazing. He showed everyone that the championship would most likely go right down to the wire when he led group qualifying with a 13.691-second lap ahead of Saturday night’s winner Schultz, who timed in at 13.778 seconds.
Jason Rader and Tim Henthorne picked up heat victories.
A six was the inversion for the feature and would find Henthorne and Cody Gallogly make up the front row. Gallogly would go on the take the 30-lap feature that went green to checkered. It was Gallogly’s first Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights Series victory.
Wyckoff, driving for veteran car owner Dave Coyan, would secure the MSR Midwest Lights championship. Car owner John Higgins was declared the MSR Midwest Lights Car Owner champion.Â
