ROSSBURG, Ohio — The format for the July 12-13 Eldora Million winged sprint car release has been released, with Eldora’s “Every Lap Matters” format in play throughout Wednesday’s twin 25-lap preliminary night program.
The points from the Wednesday night events will set the lineups for the heat races for the Eldora Million the following day at the half-mile track.
The two-day event offers a purse of more than $1.5 million, with $1,002,023 earmarked for Saturday night’s main event. The 50-lap finale pays a minimum of $6,000 to start.
Here are more details on the format:
Wednesday Night
GROUP SELECTION — Prior to the event, all entrants will be placed into one of two groups. In an effort to keep the quality of each group equal to the other, placement will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to various sanctioning body point standings, results year-to-date, and other methods.
MULTI-CAR QUALIFYING – Wednesday, after the random pill draw is split into Group A and Group B, Multi-Car Qualifying (two cars at a time, by order of pill draw), will be used to seed the Heat Race lineups in staggered fashion.
HEAT RACES – The preliminary show format plans for four Heat Races of 10-laps in distance for each of Group A and Group B. The inversion, 6, 7 or 8 cars, will be determined randomly by the ‘Wheel of Misfortune’. Cars finishing 1st through 5th advance into their group’s Twin 25 A- Feature and the balance of the finishers will advance into one of the B-Features (or if necessary, a C-Feature). Group A will contest Heats 1 through 4 to determine the first Twin 25 A-Feature. The cars not advancing will contest the first B-Feature. Group B will contest Heats 5 through 8 to determine the second Twin 25 A-Feature. The Group B cars not advancing will contest the second B-Feature.
C FEATURES — On Wednesday, if necessary, C Features of 10 laps in distance will be contested with cars finishing 1st through 4th advancing to their respective B-Feature. The remaining finishers will receive prize money distributed as follows: 5th) $150; 6th) 150; 7th and back) 125
B FEATURES — On Wednesday, B Features of 12 laps in distance will be contested with cars finishing 1st through 4th advancing to their respective A-Feature. The remaining finishers will receive prize money distributed as follows: 5th) $500; 6th) 450; 7th) 400; 8th) 350; 9th) 300; 10th) 250; 11th – 24th) 200
TWIN 25 LAP A-FEATURES — Wednesday’s preliminary night will run two A-Features of 25-laps, starting 24 cars. The 20 Heat Race transfer cars in each A-Feature will be lined up by Every Lap MattersTM point totals (Qualifying plus Heats).
Thursday’s Format
HEAT RACES – The Eldora Million will feature six Heat Races of 10-laps in distance. The lineups will be established in staggered fashion using the Every Lap MattersTM standings. The tiebreakers are: 1) Fastest Qualifying lap from Wednesday’s Preliminary Night; 2) order in which Official Entry Form was received online. Cars finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Heat Races advance to the Championship Event, while cars finishing 4th-6th advance to the B-Feature, cars finishing 7th and lower advance to one of two C-Features, in order of finishing position. Non-Qualifier Races may be added if car count necessitates.
PROVISIONALS (TWO) — The two highest point drivers in Every Lap MattersTM standings who do not advance from their Heat Races (regardless of finishing position), will start on the front row of the B-Feature.
NON-QUALIFIER RACE — If necessary, the Eldora Million will have a NQ Race of 10-laps in distance. Cars finishing 1st and 2nd will advance to one of two C-Features. The remaining finishers will receive prize money distributed as follows: 3rd) $500; 4th) 450; 5th) 400; 6th and back) 350
C FEATURES — The Eldora Million will have two C Features of 12 laps in distance. Cars finishing 1st and 2nd will advance to the B Feature.
B FEATURE — The Eldora Million will have one B Feature of 15 laps in distance. Cars finishing 1st – 6th will advance to the Eldora Million.
ELDORA MILLION — The Championship Event will be 50 green flag laps in distance starting 24 cars. Heat race winners will participate in a random draw for starting positions 1-6. Heat race second place finishers will participate in a random draw for starting positions 7-12. Heat race third place finishers will participate in a random draw for starting positions 13-18. B-Feature transfers will start in positions 19- 24.
