KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The inaugural American Speed U.S. Nationals is less than five weeks away and entries steadily continue to come in from teams hoping to compete in this historic event.
The two-day event on May 28-29 at Kalamazoo Speedway will be highlighted by the Must See Racing Sprint Series presented by Engine Pro. In addition, the Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights and Midwest Supermodified Series will share the weekend’s racing line-up.
The two-day format will culminate in a $5,000 payday for one lucky MSR 410 sprint car driver in front of the MAVTV cameras May 29. This will be the first time MSR has competed at Kalamazoo Speedway in several seasons.
The MSR 410 sprint car portion of the event already has more than 20 confirmed entries. The event is attracting former pavement sprint car champions from around the country. The event was created to bring champions from around the nation together over the holiday weekend to showcase a champion of champions type of event. The current list of entrants is doing just that.
Here are some of the champions currently entered in the event:
Jason Blonde – This driver calls Litchfield, Mich., home. He currently has seven Auto Value Super Sprints championships to his credit. He last title came as recently as 2017.
Jeff Bloom – The Bangor, Mich., driver has three Little 500 victories on his resume. He won the event in 1972, 1977, and 1991. In addition, Bloom is also a National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee.
Troy DeCaire – This Tampa, Fla., driver loves championships and understands their importance. He was the inaugural MSR champion in 2010-11. He was the 2008 Tampa Bay Area Racing Association champion and 2009 Central Florida Wingless champion. He most recently captured the 2019 Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series championship.
Tom Jewell – The Vandalia, Mich., resident was the 1982 South Bend Motor Speedway Sprint Car/Supermodified track champion.
Anthony Linkenhoker – This Louisa, Va., driver is the 2017 Virginia Sprint Series Champion. In addition, he was the 2018 Must See Racing Rookie of the Year.
Anthony McCune – The Toledo, Ohio, 23-year-old scored his first MSR championship in 2020 and looks destined for more championships in the future.
Jimmy McCune – The Five-time MSR champion is the winningest driver in MSR history. The Toledo, Ohio, native also captured the 2017 Midwest Non-Wing Sprint Car championship.
Charlie Schultz – This former Supermodified star now focuses on winged pavement sprint cars. He is the 2010 Midwest Supermodified champion who currently calls Lorain, Ohio, home.
