Eliason Returns To Perth To Defend Title

Cory Eliason will return to Perth this December to defend the U.S.A. vs. Western Australian Speedweek title that he claimed last season.

The 32-year-old driver joins compatriots Rico Abreu and Brock Zearfoss for the six-round series on Australia’s west coast.

Eliason was dominant earlier this year, winning the seven-round 2022-’23 series narrowly from Tyler Courtney.

Courtney had starred at the Perth Motorplex, winning all three rounds there, but Eliason outperformed him at Bunbury Speedway and Ellenbrook to top the points in the series. The Californian driver only missed the podium once in his 28-day barnstorming tour of the west.

In an interesting twist, Eliason will drive the Monte Farms No. 17 Sprint Car for Monte Motorsport. Last season, Courtney was at the wheel of the car with its distinctive yellow livery.

“I’m super excited to be coming back to Perth with the new team,” said Eliason. “I have to thank Luch Monte for this great opportunity to wheel the Monte Farms No. 17 this season.”

Since returning to the States from Australia, Eliason has claimed features at New York’s Weedsport Speedway and Wisconsin’s Beaver Dam Raceway.

The Speedweek kicks off at the Perth Motorplex on December 26. The six-round series ends at the same venue on January 13.

The visiting drivers are expected to then journey to Victoria and South Australia for the prestigious southern state features, including the 51st Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.

Oval track racing commences at the Perth Motorplex on November 4 with the Sprint Car Westernapolis. It will be the first opportunity for the locals to turn a wheel after the winter recess.
