Cummins Takes Another Tri-State MSCS Victory

HAUBSTADT, Ind. – Kyle Cummins continued his mastery of Tri-State Speedway with yet another Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series victory at the quarter-mile dirt oval Sunday night.

Cummins slid past polesitter Carson Garrett on lap two of the 25-lap main event and led the rest of the way for his fourth MSCS win in six races this season.

Despite two caution flags which set up restarts and bunched the field up on his rear bumper, Cummins never faltered and pulled away over a 10-lap green-flag run to the finish to win by 2.539 seconds.

Though he made the win look easy, Cummins believed he “wasn’t that good” when speaking about the run in victory lane.

“I felt like I was terrible. I was just so tight. I couldn’t gas it up,” Cummins explained. “I’d seen Critter there and I saw Chase (Stockon) … so I started opening my corner up to try to get some momentum and I don’t think that worked well, so I started just running the bottom and that actually helped loosen the car up.

“I just can’t give it up enough to everyone who works on this thing. Hank and my dad just got this motor down and put her in there,” Cummins added. “Everybody makes my job easy and it’s fun when I get to run this thing.”

After a stackup on the initial start led to a complete restart, a pair of incidents slowed the pace during the main event.

The first came on lap six when Ricky Lewis slowed to a stop in turn four, and the second was with 10 to go when Lewis slammed the outside wall in turns three and four before stopping for a second time.

Both times, Cummins easily gapped the field on the ensuing restarts and was never challenged.

The finish:
