Calistoga Speedway could reopen for racing later in 2025.

Calistoga Seeks To Acquire Fairgrounds

CALISTOGA, Calif. — The city of Calistoga is moving ahead with a plan to purchase the Napa County Fairgrounds where Calistoga Speedway is located.

The Calistoga city council approved the purchase Tuesday evening. The 70.6-acre fairgrounds would be sold for $15,885. However, the sale is contingent on two-thirds of Calistoga voters approving a bill to fund infrastructure improvements that would cost approximately $9.1 million.

According to the Napa Valley Register, the agreement includes the entire fairgrounds site and the Mount St. Helena Golf Course.

Should the city council and voters approve the deal, it could close by July 31.

“This property has a significant amount of maintenance, repair and correction that needs to happen before it’s safe to be used,” Calistoga Mayor Chris Canning told the Napa Valley Register. “There will be certain elements of the property that can be used sooner rather than later, but at the end of the day — I know we’re anxious, we’re excited, it’s an emotional property — Aug. 1, 2023 doesn’t mean it’s open for business.”

In addition, the city will pay Napa County approximately $15,000 per month until the sale goes through for maintenance costs on the golf course portion of the property.
