Youngsters & Crafty Vets On Tuesday Night

TULSA, Okla. — A plethora of youthful hard chargers and a handful of crafty veterans will take center stage during Warren CAT Qualifying night on the second night of the 37th Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals inside the SageNet Center.

Driving the No. 71w for Keith Kunz Motorsports, two-time USAC midget champion Michael Kofoid headlines the field of young guns who will be challenging for the preliminary-night victory and one of two guaranteed spots in Saturday’s main event. Kofoid won the preliminary night feature on Tuesday night last year and has finished in the top-three in all three of his preliminary-night starts.

Last year Kaylee Bryson became the first female driver to qualify for a Chili Bowl main event and she returns to the KKM stable, wheeling the No. 71 midget as a teammate to Kofoid. She’ll be among the favorites on Tuesday night.

Teenager Jade Avedisian and Jonathan Beason will both be contenders aboard CB Industries midgets, while Daison Pursley returns to the Chili Bowl after injuries kept him from competing in last year’s event. Pursley will wheel the No. 19a midget for Reinbold Underwood Motorsports, which won last year’s Chili Bowl with Tanner Thorson at the wheel.

Another teenager, Chance Crum, who turned heads during USAC’s season-ending West Coast swing, will pilot the Rudeen Racing No. 26 machine and should be among the front runners.

Headlining the veteran contenders is 2006 Chili Bowl winner Tim McCreadie aboard the Daughtery No. 39. Another former Chili Bowl winner, Damion Gardner, pilots one of three Klatt Enterprises machines entered this year.

Zach Daum will handle Andy Bondio’s familiar No. 47 machine and Australian Michael Pickens, climbs aboard one of the seven entries for Dave Mac Motorsports. Pickens has finished in the top three four times on a preliminary night and Daum won his preliminary-night feature in 2010.
