McIntosh & Timms Lead Monday’s Chili Bowl Field

TULSA, Okla. — The 37th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals opens Monday night at the SageNet Center with a full field of entries on Cummins Qualifying Night.

After heats, qualifiers and main events, the top-two finishers in the 30-lap feature will lock into to Saturday night’s main event.

Cannon McIntosh and Ryan Timms look to be the favorites heading into the opening night program. Driving his family-owned Dave Mac Motorsports No. 08 midget, McIntosh won 15 midget features last season.

McIntosh won preliminary-night features in 2020 and ’21.

Timms, 16, will take over the wheel of the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 67, which Buddy Kofoid has driven to consecutive USAC championships. He was a multi-time winner in midget and sprint car competition last season.

Gavan Boschele and Kyle Spence, the Giveback Classic winner, will also wheel Kunz entries on Monday night.

Trophy Cup winner Shane Golobic hits the track in a Matt Wood Racing machine, while teenage midget sensation Jacob Denney will handle Tom Malloy’s potent No. 25 machine. NASCAR drivers Chase Briscoe and Alex Bowman will drive for their own teams, while former USAC champion Chris Windom will guide one of Chad Boat’s CB Industries machines.

It will be Windom’s 16th Chili Bowl appearance, yet he’s never won a preliminary main event. His best finish in Saturday’s main event is fifth in 2010. Another veteran, Jerry Coons Jr., will drive the No. 85 fielded by Central Motorsports.

Coons has qualified for 18 Chili Bowl A-features with a best finish of fourth on three occasions.
