Johnson Secures Sponsor For Chili Bowl

PENNGROVE, Calif. — With the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals rapidly approaching, Chase Johnson has joined CB Industries to take on the 37th annual event in Tulsa, Okla., with Sage Fruit Company as his sponsor.

Sage Fruit Company will be represented on Johnson’s No. 86 entry for the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.

“We are excited here at Sage Fruit to work with Chase and the rest of the CB Industries team at the 2023 Chili Bowl,” said Chuck Sinks, Sage Fruit. “We are really looking forward to the week in Tulsa.”

The 37th annual Chili Bowl goes green on Monday, Jan. 9, and showcases five preliminary qualifying nights leading up to Saturday’s championship finale. Over 300 cars are currently entered.

The 2023 running of the Chili Bowl will be the ninth attempt for the 27-year-old at the prestigious show. The California racer competed for CB Industries this past January and claimed an impressive third place result on his preliminary night, while also locking into the big show on Saturday.

“I’m certainly thrilled for the opportunity to run the Chili Bowl again with Chad and his team then add in the support from Sage Fruit this year is amazing,” said Johnson, who also finished third on his prelim during the 2018 Chili Bowl and eighth in the finale. “The Chili Bowl is a spectacular event with a ton of cars and thousands of race fans. I look forward to representing Sage Fruit on and off the track. Hopefully we can put together some good results and be in contention come Saturday night.

“I feel really confident with this team.”

Heading into this year’s edition of the Chili Bowl, Johnson is on a string of finishing seventh or better in three consecutive prelims.

He will look to continue that success in January.

“This event is so tough and there are so many variables and that can factor in,” he said. “We’ve been fortunate to get through our preliminary nights in solid fashion and that has set us up well for the final night. I can’t wait to get it all started and be on Tulsa time soon.”
