Abreu, Swindell Headline Wednesday Chili Bowl Qualifier

TULSA, Okla. — A pair of Chili Bowl champions headline the list of drivers slated to compete during Wednesday’s Hard Rock Qualifying Night inside the Tulsa Expo Center.

Rico Abreu, a two-time Chili Bowl winner with six Wednesday preliminary feature victories, returns aboard the No. 97 Keith Kunz Motorsports entry. He dominated the 30-lap Wednesday preliminary feature last year, leading every lap and winning by more than three seconds.

He’s joined Wednesday by five-time Chili Bowl champion Sammy Swindell, who will once again be aboard the No. 1 Swindell Speedlab entry. He’ll be attempting to qualify for the Saturday main event after falling short last year.

Another marquee name on the Chili Bowl entry list Wednesday is three-time and defending World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion Brad Sweet, who will pilot the No. 1r fielded by RMS Racing and Rusty Kunz.

USAC star Kevin Thomas Jr. will likely be among the contenders in the Timms-Alexander No. 5t, as will Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series champion Blake Hahn, who will pilot his own No. 52.

Ryan Timms, who is making his Chili Bowl debut at 15 years old, could be among the contenders. The winner in USAC, POWRi and Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series competition last year will be apart of Chad Boat’s CB Industries stable.

Other notable entries include All Star Circuit of Champions regular Justin Peck, Chili Bowl fan favorite Jason McDougal, winged sprint car regular Parker Price-Miller, Pennsylvania sprint car competitor Anthony Macri and USAC National Sprint Car and Midget winner Tyler Thomas.

A number of eye-catching rookies are also entered Wednesday, including veteran Australian sprint car driver Brooke Tatnell, Keith Kunz Motorsports driver Jonathan Shafer, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series star Carson Hocevar, Clauson Marshall Racing’s Corey Day and CB Industries’ driver Dominic Gorden.
