Knoxville Raceway Set To Crown Champions

KNOXVILLE, Iowa – The Knoxville Raceway sprint car season is set to wrap up this Saturday, Aug. 28, with the Iowa Corn Growers Association Districts 5 and 9 Season Championship Night.

In 410 competition, Davey Heskin of St. Michael, Minn., holds a 78-point lead on South Dakota’s Justin Henderson and is looking for his first title in the division. Four-time 410 track champion, Brian Brown, from Grain Valley, Mo., also has his hat in the ring, 86 points off Heskin’s pace.

Ryan Giles of Grimes, Iowa, hopes to get his first track in the 360 class. Giles has an 80-point lead over South Dakota’s Clint Garner, who would like to add a ninth championship to his trophy case. Knoxville’s Jamie Ball sits third, 104 points behind the leader.

Taking away the 100 points competitors receive for participation, 240 points are possible through qualifying, heat races and feature events in both classes.

The math in the Pace Performance Pro Sprints is a lot easier. Tyler Groenendyk of Oskaloosa, Iowa, just needs to register in the field on Saturday to clinch his title in the division. It will be Groenendyk’s first track title of any kind at Knoxville.

The 410 main event will pay $5,000-to-win, while the 360 portion pays $2,000-to-win.
