Chaz Groat Memorial On Tap For Salt Lake Midgets

MERIDIAN, Idaho — The Rocky Mountain Focus Midgets will return to Meridian Speedway Sept. 24-25 for what could be its biggest race weekend of the season. The weekend will be the inaugural first Chaz Groat Memorial race. It will be the final visit of the year to Meridian Speedway for the Rocky Mountain Focus Midgets.

The 17-year-old Groat lost his life in an automobile accident last New Year’s Eve. The racer from West Valley City, Utah was a competitor with the Rocky Mountain Focus Midget series at the time of his death.

The two-day event is gaining traction. Several drivers representing many other Focus Midget clubs from around the country are expected to compete including six to eight cars from the Northwest Focus series.

A $15,000 weekend points fund has been organized through sponsorships as well as other awards and incentives. More than 20 cars are expected to compete in the event.

The early announced list of drivers expected to compete includes Jessica Bean, Devn Westover, Ashlyn Powell, Monty Bergener, Natalie Waters, Sid McElreth, Anthony Quintana, Matt Elliott, River Merrill, Cheyenne Merrill, Trevor Miran, Michael Smith, Mike Anderson, Kevin Larson, and Josie Nelson.

The midget races will be part of the weekend’s 7th annual Pink Lady Classic $20,000-to-win sprint car event. The Rocky Mountain Focus Midget series event is also listed as a points event on the USAC Radical Focus Speed2 Midget Series schedule.
