SYDNEY, Australia — Just 12 days after drivers crossed the line in Townsville, Supercars were back in action at Sydney Motorsport Park for a crucial practice session under lights.
Ryan Wood was the surprise pace setter, leading a Supercars practice session for the first time in his career.
The sole practice session at the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight, which ran for 90 minutes, ended with a top three covered by.0824 seconds.
Matt Stone Racing driver Nick Percat led into the closing minutes, before 20-year-old Wood clocked a 1:30.5842s to end up fastest by just.0429 seconds.
Walkinshaw Andretti United star Mostert, who is third in the championship, was third with a 1:30.6666 lap, with championship leader Will Brown fourth.
Cameron Hill, Cam Waters, Andre Heimgartner, Anton De Pasquale, James Courtney and Broc Feeney completed the top 10.
No driver logged more laps than Wood’s 38, with reigning champion Brodie Kostecki ran only 17 circuits.
“Feeling pretty confident going into tomorrow. It’s a nice way to end tonight,” said Wood.
“We’ve been hanging around for a while to drive the race cars, and it’s nice to come out pretty strong.”
