Oil Slick Helps Wilzoch Top Road America Field

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Andy Wilzoch piloted the No. 460 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 991.2 to victory Sunday in GT America action at Road America.

At the start it was James Sofronas, Memo Gidley, Charlie Luck and Jason Daskalos leading at the way. Daskalos soon navigated through the traffic to move to second, while Luck did the same shortly thereafter.

In the GT4 field, Adam Adelson made contact with Grew Newell’s Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, which was believed to drop oil between turns three and six.

On the next lap the oiled surface led to several competitors sliding off the track, including the front runners Sofronas, Gidley and Jason Harward. Daskalos also nearly spun, but was able to recover and continue.

As a result, Wilzoch moved to the point. Officials attempted to clean up the track surface, but it was decided the cleanup would take too long and the race was declared official. Wilzoch was declared the winner overall and in the Masters class, while Sean Quinlan claimed the GT4 class victory.
