ZANDVOORT, The Netherlands — Jack Aitken won the fifth DTM race in Zandvoort on Saturday with ease and moved up to third place in the overall standings thanks to his second win of the season.
“After three race weekends, I already have two wins under my belt, which is fantastic,” Aitken said. “The decisive factor was that I was able to build up a small lead right after the start and then control the race from the front. In the final phase, René Rast was often visible in my rear-view mirror, but I didn’t let that get me down.”
René Rast from Schubert Motorsport came in second, just under three seconds behind. The three-time champion thus secured BMW’s first podium finish of the season.
Arjun Maini rewarded himself for his strong performance in qualifying with third place in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT and stood on the podium for the second time in his DTM career.
