Glory Days: Turbo Breaks, Foyt Wins

Three legends (Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, Gordon Johncock) shared the front row for the 1967 Indianapolis 500, but at the end of the race it was another legend grabbing his third Indianapolis 500 triumph.

The rain-delayed race took 26 hours and one minute to complete the 500 miles with Foyt, who challenged at the front of the field throughout the race, taking command when Parnelli Jones’ Andy Granatelli-owned turbine car failed during the stretch run to the checkered flag.

Foyt averaged 151.207 mph and crossed the finish line ahead of Al Unser and Joe Leonard.
