Glory Days: Hewitt & Butler Battle At Four Crown

The fans who came to Eldora Speedway for the eighth annual 4-Crown Nationals certainly got their money’s worth as they stood and cheered one of the most fantastic three-car duels in Champ Dirt Car history.

And it was Eldora’s favorite son, Jack Hewitt who scored the spectacular victory after spinning on the frontstretch and chasing down leaders Steve Butler and Larry Rice. Hewitt and Butler traded slide jobs during the final stages of the event, with Hewitt claiming the $7,000 top prize ahead of Butler and Rice.

Other 4-Crown winners that day were Butler (sprint cars), Rich Vogler (midgets) and Doug Ault (late models).
