JOHNSON VALLEY, Calif. — Sunday’s racing action at the King of the Hammers saw both the limited and unlimited classes hit the desert course.
This year, Best in the Desert its their opening round with the Toyo Tires Desert Challenge after the last-minute cancellation of the Parker 425. The move helped boost entries for the popular Hammers desert event.
Racing kicked off in the morning with the limited classes. The Class 10 of Chase Warren was the top qualifier in a one-lap prologue held a day earlier. Warren would be chased down by Ezra Ebberts, who took the lead and the victory in the class as well as the overall win across all classes. One-hundred twenty-eight cars started the race.
The afternoon was all about the unlimited horsepower trucks and buggies. Kyle Jergensen was the top qualifier and was first to head out into the desert.
Adam Householder stayed consistent picking off trucks on the course and soon found himself in the lead.
Over in the highly competitive spec class, Dustin Grabowski cruised to a victory after leader Christopher Polvoorde went down with mechanical issues.
Great American Shortcourse will host a season opener for the fans in Hammertown on Monday, then all eyes shift to the rocks for King of the UTV’s, Everyman Challenge and Race of Kings.
