What To Watch For — Sept. 8-10

Some of the country’s longest running and most prestigious short-track races take center stage this weekend with the Gold Cup Race of Champions, World 100, IMCA Super Nationals and Tuscarora 500 among the events on the calendar.

Gold Cup

The 69th running of the Gold Cup Race of Champions is scheduled over four days at California’s Silver Dollar Speedway.

Kicking off with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Wednesday night, the event includes three nights of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition, with $25,000 going to the winner of Saturday night’s 40-lap finale on the historic quarter-mile track.

IMCA Super Nationals

The 41st running of the IMCA Super Nationals kicked off on Monday night at Iowa’s Boone Speedway and will continue through Saturday night’s signature modified main event, the last of six divisions to crown a Super Nationals winner.

World 100

It will be the 53rd running of the country’s biggest late model race, the World 100, Saturday night at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway.

Drawing nearly 100 cars from around the country, the World 100 will pay $56,000 to win the 100-lap event on the legendary half-mile oval.

Two nights of preliminary action run Thursday and Friday with two $12,000-to-win features each night.

Tuscarora 50

The All Star Circuit of Champions will sanction the 56th running of the Tuscarora 50 sprint car race at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway.

The travelers will take on the Posse for three nights, beginning with $10,000-to-win features on Thursday and Friday.

Saturday night’s main event will pay $56,000 to the winner.

Round Two

The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway for round two of the playoffs on Sunday afternoon at the 1.5-mile track. Kyle Larson has already clinched a spot in the round of 12 with a victory in the opener at Darlington Raceway.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series, Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series will also be on the card at Kansas.

The Last Race

The NTT IndyCar Series wraps up at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Palou has already secured his second series championship heading into the finale. Next season, the IndyCar season will conclude in Nashville, Tenn.

Super Motocross

The inaugural three-race Super Motocross Championship, featuring the country’s best supercross and motocross racers, kicks off Saturday afternoon at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C.

500 Sprint Tour

The non-winged 500 Sprint Tour will make its first visit to Ohio’s Lorain Raceway Park on Saturday night. Kody Swanson is the series point leader.
