What To Watch For — April 21-23

Talladega Superspeedway, Slinger Speedway and the mountains of Kentucky will be among the venues taking centerstage in the racing world this weekend.

Here’s this week’s What to Watch For:

Three-Day WoO LMS

With numerous rainouts during March and April, the World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series hopes to get on the track with a three-day weekend of events highlighted by two nights of action at Talladega (Ala.) Short Track in conjunction with the NASCAR Cup Series weekend across the street at Talladega Superspeedway.

Action begins Thursday at 411 Motor Speedway before the series moves to the quarter-mile Talladega bullring for events on Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s finale is scheduled to pay $50,000 to the winner.

Talladega Time

High-speed racing action and crashes are the norm at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and both will be in the offing as the NASCAR Cup Series headlines a three-event weekend at the 2.66-mile track.

A doubleheader will be on the card on Saturday with ARCA Menards Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series both in action.

Attention turns to the Cup Series on Sunday in what is sure to be an unpredictable race that will go down to the final sprint to the checkered flag. Ross Chastain and Chase Elliott won last year’s Cup Series races at Talladega.

Cancellations Continue To Strike

It’s been a wet and chilly beginning of the season, with multiple events canceled. That trend continued, with both the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Series events called off.

The Outlaws were set to compete at Knoxville Raceway in April for the first time in 11 years, while USAC had two nights shot down due to threatening weather.

Slinger Speed

Slinger Speedway will open its season with the second annual Miracle on the High Banks featuring the ASA Midwest Tour super late models in a 100-lap race on the famed quarter-mile track. Bubba Pollard, Luke Fenhaus and Alex Prunty are expected to be among the contenders in the event that will be broadcast by SPEED SPORT affiliate Midwesttour.tv.

Off Roading Kentucky

Round two of the Ultra4 USA Series is April 20-23 at Rush Off-Road in the mountains of Kentucky. This woods course will challenge racers with varied and sometimes unpredictable terrain as racers kick of the East region points race.  Catch all the action on AOE.tv.

Cold Hangs On

Rainy weather and forecast cold temperatures have led to the postponement or cancellation of numerous events this weekend, including the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series visit to Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway, the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Car Series opener at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway and a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events.
