What 2 Watch For — August 18-20

Another big money event for the World of Outlaws, NASCAR’s regular season is winding down and the 60th running of the Bettenhausen 100 are among the on-track happenings scheduled for the coming weekend.

Here’s what to watch for.

Jackson Nationals

With the Knoxville Nationals in the rearview mirror, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series heads to Minnesota for the 45th running of the AGCO Jackson Nationals at Jackson Motorplex.

Two nights of preliminary competition boast a pair of $10,000-to-win main events, while Saturday’s finale will pay $25,000 to the winner and $2,000 to every driver making the main event. Carson Macedo is the defending Jackson Nationals winner.

Watkins Glen

Only two events remain in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season as the tour makes its annual late-summer visit to central New York’s Watkins Glen Int’l road course. It’s the second consecutive road course event after Michael McDowell won Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series headlines the Saturday program at Watkins Glen. 

USAC Trio

The 60th running of the Bettenhausen 100 for the USAC Silver Crown Series headlines a three-race weekend in the state of Illinois for the USAC contingent.

The Bettenhausen 100 will feature a stacked field of open-wheel racers challenging the historic one-mile dirt track on the grounds of the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. The race pays $10,000 to win.

Meanwhile, the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship will race Friday at Wayne County (Ill.) Speedway with the 10th running of the Jason Leffler Memorial. The series visits Macon Speedway on Saturday night.

ARCA Times Three

It will be a busy weekend for ARCA officials with three events on the docket over a three-day span.

The ARCA Menards Series will take on two very different race tracks with a single travel day in between. On Friday afternoon, the series will compete on the winding road course at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) Int’l and two days later takes on the one-mile dirt track at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

Meanwhile, the ARCA Menards Series West will be in action Saturday night at Washington’s Evergreen Speedway. 

All Stars

After two full weeks off, the All Star Circuit of Champions winged sprint cars get back on the track with a three-race Eastern swing.

The tour kicks off Friday night with an $8,000-to-win main event at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y. It’s a short trip for Saturday’s $10,000-to-win program at Utica-Rome Speedway. Another $10,000 will be on the line as the All Stars take on Pennsylvania’s best racers on Sunday night at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway. 

Midwest Tour

Iowa’s Hawkeye Downs Speedway will play host to the ASA Midwest Tour on Saturday night. Gabe Sommers is the current series point leader with seven events down and five remaining on the calendar.

Silver Jubilee

The 25th anniversary of the USMTS Silver Jubilee takes place Wednesday through Saturday at Mason City (Iowa) Motor Speedway.

Three nights of modified action at the third-mile dirt track lead up to Saturday’s 78-lap main event that starts 33 cars and pays $25,000 to win.
