Power Rankings: Newgarden Rises As New Names Emerge

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Max Verstappen

Three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has been dominant again to start this season, winning the first two grands prix of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

2. Josef Newgarden

Having won the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, Josef Newgarden turned in a dominant performance to win Sunday’s NTT IndyCar Series opener at St. Petersburg, Fla. The Team Penske driver led 92 of the 100 laps from the pole on the streets of St. Petersburg. 

3. Jett Lawrence

Reigning SuperMotocross champion Jett Lawrence extended his point lead in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series with his four victory of the season Saturday at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.

4. Erica Enders

Six-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Erica Enders won the season-opening Gatornationals at Florida’s Gainesville Raceway. Enders also captured the PRO Superstar Shootout victory in February.

5. Tyler Courtney

Tyler Courtney has won two High Limit Racing sprint car features and one World of Outlaws sprint car main event through the first three weeks of the season. He holds the points lead in the standings as well. 

6. Shawn Langdon

Shawn Langdon started the NHRA Top Fuel season in stellar fashion, claiming victory Sunday at the Gatornationals at Florida’s Gainesville Raceway.

7. Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson, a winner in High Limit sprint car competition in February, earned his first NASCAR Cup Series triumph of the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Larson is second in the standings.

8. Logan Seavey

Logan Seavey won a pair of USAC sprint car features at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park and leads the series standings after five races. He also won the Chili Bowl Nationals for the second time this season. Seavey added a midget victory in Australia last week.

9. Justin Grant

Justin Grant won three of the first five USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship races this season, all at Florida’s Ocala Speedway. Grant added a midget victory in Australia last week.

10. Bobby Pierce

Bobby Pierce earned $10,000 for winning Saturday’s Adams Memorial at Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway. It was his seventh dirt late model victory in 15 starts this season.
