Power Rankings: Lawrence To The Top, Thornton Rises

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Jett Lawrence

Reigning SuperMotocross champion Jett Lawrence extended his point lead in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series with his fifth victory of the season Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

2. Max Verstappen

Three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has been dominant again to start this season, winning the first two grands prix of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

3. Josef Newgarden

Having won the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, Josef Newgarden turned in a dominant performance to win the NTT IndyCar Series opener at St. Petersburg, Fla. 

4. Erica Enders

Six-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Erica Enders won the season-opening Gatornationals at Florida’s Gainesville Raceway. Enders also captured the PRO Superstar Shootout victory in February.

5. Matt Sheppard

Matt Sheppard earned $50,000 for winning the Speed Showcase, which was sanctioned by the Short Track Super Series, at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway. It was his fourth STSS triumph of the season and his sixth victory of the year.

6. Ricky Thornton Jr.

Ricky Thornton Jr. grabbed his fourth dirt late model victory of the season Saturday night at Kentucky’s Florence Speedway.

7. Bubba Pollard

Bubba Pollard is on a hot streak to open the super late model racing season. Pollard won Saturday’s Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway for his third big-money victory of the campaign.

8. Kyle Larson

With one NASCAR Cup Series victory, Kyle Larson leads the series standings after five races. He’s also posted a High Limit sprint car triumph.

9. Logan Seavey

Logan Seavey won a pair of USAC sprint car features at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park and leads the series standings after five races. He also won the Chili Bowl Nationals for the second time this season. Seavey added a midget victory in Australia.

10. Connor Zilisch

Teenager Connor Zilisch is a three-time sports car winner already this season. Zilisch claimed the LMP2 triumph last weekend at Sebring Int’l Raceway and also claimed the class victory during the Rolex 24 At Daytona. He also has won a Trans-Am race this season.
