Sainz Leads Second Practice At Silverstone

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz led the way for FP2 at Silverstone (U.K.) Circuit, with hometown favorites Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris behind him.

Sainz clocked in at a 1:28.942, with Hamilton running a hint slower, .163 seconds off.

Last year’s world champion Max Verstappen was fourth, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc slotting behind him in fifth.

“It’s always a bit tricky when you don’t run a lot in FP1, it means there’s a lot more guess work in FP2,” Verstappen said. “I think we know what we need to work on and we’ll do that overnight. It looks like it’s going to rain during qualifying tomorrow, so there’ll be different conditions compared to our sessions today. I got a few laps in with high fuel on the softest compounds, the tires wear quickly here with all the high-speed corners, so it’s always going to be quite tricky to manage the tires on this track. Overall it went okay today and I’m looking forward to qualifying tomorrow.”

Earlier in the day, wet conditions shook up FP1, with Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas topping the charts over former teammate Lewis Hamilton.

With the conditions being treacherous, some teams like Red Bull Racing elected to not participate in the session.
