Haas F1 Team Releases Mazepin

CONCORD, N.C. — With the start of the Formula 1 season only two weeks away, Haas F1 has parted ways with one of its two drivers.

Russian hotshoe Nikita Mazepin’s contract was terminated as a result of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The team issued a statement Saturday morning.

“Haas F1 Team has elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the title partnership of Uralkali, and the driver contract of Nikita Mazepin,” the statement read. “As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict.”

Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher is the team’s remaining driver.

The team has not named a replacement for Mazepin, but Pietro Fittipaldi is currently the team’s reserve driver.
