A New Era For SPEED SPORT

Editor’s Note: This column appeared in the December 2022 issue of SPEED SPORT/Sprint Car & Midget Magazine.

This is the final issue of SPEED SPORT/Sprint Car & Midget Magazine. There, I said it.

While this is the end of the “print era” for SPEED SPORT, it also marks the beginning of an entirely new and exciting chapter for the publication. We are very excited to roll out our new weekly e-newspaper, which will replace the monthly print magazine. Fashioned along the lines of the original National Speed Sport News, the new publication will be delivered to your email’s inbox every Wednesday.

SPEED SPORT Weekly will contain the same content that was previously published in the pages of SPEED SPORT and SprintCar & Midget Magazines — features, columns and photographs from the same award-winning writers and photojournalists you have enjoyed all these years. In addition, SPEED SPORT Weekly will offer breaking news, results and insider information.

We are also merging SprintCar & Midget content into SPEED SPORT. So going forward, there will be only one website (SPEEDSPORT.com), one daily headlines email newsletter — The Daily — and one premium digital publication (SPEED SPORT Weekly).

With the efficiency of eliminating printing, production and postage, and by combining publications and websites, we are doing our part to save the environment, and we will be able to invest more in our writers, photographers and editors to deliver even more value for subscribers.

Our priorities are toward delivering quality content in the most efficient and easy-to-read fashion possible. Print no longer allows us to do that.

Here’s how it works:

We have done everything to make the transition as simple as possible. The subscription rate will stay exactly the same, and you will not have to create an account or register initially — we’ll handle that. At renewal, and for new subscribers, you’ll have the option to choose a monthly subscription or stay with the discounted annual rate.

Once you’ve subscribed or renewed, you will not have to login or remember a password every time you look at a story. If you receive the newsletter, your subscription is good and you can read all the content in a dedicated subscriber area. No paywalls to mess with. You can easily manage your subscription online or on your phone. You may also call us anytime for assistance.

Email is a little “old school” these days — but we like it because it’s simple, efficient and portable. If you have a smart phone, and 99 percent of you do, then you can get your SPEED SPORT Weekly and read it whenever, wherever you are.

Being digital will also make it easier for us to deliver a more useful subscriber experience — video, podcasts and curated links to partner sites — all impossible with a printed magazine.

Obviously, we’ll need your email address. Most of our subscribers have already created accounts and provided their email. But if you have not, we will be calling to personally help you get squared away. If you aren’t sure, don’t hear from us or don’t receive your new e-magazine this month, please call our circulation department at (704) 790-0136 or email your information to [email protected].

We recognize this next step isn’t going to be popular with everyone. But I can assure you we’ve spent a lot of time gathering feedback, listening to subscribers and doing our homework. We think you’re going to love it. We think you’ll appreciate the added frequency and volume of quality content. We think you’ll like the simple, easy-to-read and easy-to-navigate format. And if you don’t, I’m sure you’ll let us know.

We are thankful for your continued support and are thrilled to bring back the iconic weekly — National Speed Sport News — as SPEED SPORT Weekly in digital form. Features, columns, news and results, delivered to your inbox every Wednesday.
