Nemechek Tops Xfinity Series Qualifying At Darlington

John Hunter Nemechek turned the fastest lap during NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway on Friday evening.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver logged a 29.613-second lap at 166.062 mph in his No. 20 Toyota to score pole position for the Shriners Children’s 200. Teammate Ryan Truex, who won the last series race at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway, will join Nemechek on the front row, after he turned a 29.754-second lap (165.275 mph) in Friday’s session. 

Full-time Cup Series driver Kyle Larson qualified third in his No. 10 Kaulig Racing entry.

JR Motorsports’ Sam Mayer finished fourth, while Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer was fifth.

Chandler Smith, Sheldon Creed, Parker Retzlaff, Sammy Smith and Austin Hill completed the top 10.
