Austin Hill drove his No. 21 Richard Childress Racing entry to pole position during the NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying session on Friday night at Talladega Superspeedway.
At a speed of 182.036 mph, Hill recorded a 52.605-second lap time around the 2.66-mile track.
Ty Gibbs finished second, 0.016 seconds behind Hill in his No. 54 Toyota Camry.
Sheldon Creed, Justin Allgaier and Brandon Jones rounded out the top five.
Last week’s winner Noah Gragson ended the night in sixth with a best lap time of 52.867. The JR Motorsports driver will be looking to extend his win streak to five-in-a-row on Saturday.
Josh Berry, AJ Allmendinger, Parker Kligerman and Ryan Vargas completed the top 10.Â
